Ok, I just read your "Melquides Remote biasing". This technic can not be duplicate in my amp due to DC coupling, the C3G (I dont use 6E5P) driver stage basically adjust the 6C33C current in the output stage. Just for curiosity,...

Romy,
I know you are busy building new speakers at the moment, but I have to ask for your help.
I started putting together the full range melquiades amplifier. This is my first time building any electronic device, ...

Guy, I am not sure that “all audio components would ideally be transparent” as most of the audio components perform own actions: gain change or different type of conversions. Preamp, in contrary, mostly performs no actions or if it is in unity gain i...

Thanks, Adrian, as I underused the Dave Slagle is autoformer guy. I have no needs for autoformers as I need purely restive load. I fact it is not big deal to find switch, it is complicated to find a ready to go attenuator. Mike Percy care many ...

I've made an itellectuall excercise and tried to see hoe to fullfil (some of) Romy'spoints regarding the bass amp.1) To get 100+ W from 833, HT between 2.5kV and 3kV will not work.Spending some time over the curves, 1400V, 0V, 280mA loaded with6.5k s...
I was hoping to get some specifics from you when looking at a BEST "impedance match" ~ 1:1 with the cart in use, and if you had figured out some ball-park value which then can be used as point of departure for listening test.[/quo...

There is no need to invent anything in the 834PT – it is good as is. The only think that I “might” do it conversion of the second stage to fixed bias and drive R18 resistor from 1.5V battery. Everything else is perfect in this corrector.
The CatCor...

Oh, Romy, I meant the air caps in the corrector loop of course!!!Adjusting PS caps I leave to AA morons and alike.Believe me or not I did go very serious about the proper choke input operation. What I meant is that I have to get hold of a scope to che...

An audio guy contacted me today with and an interesting note: “can't put a piano in the same room as a hifi”. When I asked why he wrote: “scott's steinway sounding board would 'ring' like crazy. it was my theory about why his tannoys sounded even mud...

Romy,I try to remove the step-up transformers & short the
input grid, the hum has gone.Than, I did next changes:1. Twisted wire from input RCA to step-up transformers. Connect transformers input & output ground directly (not thought ground ...

Rakesh, I think you’re doing a strategic mistake. You see, there is no manual in those things. As much as you are trying to come up with one it still will be no manual in the end. Reading this site one might think that by venture of my site I have bu...

I would like to expense a bit on my post above. If we presume that a warmed up, hot magnet (electromagnet) radiate a magnetic field of different type and those “hot filed” have some kind of positive effect to sound then there is a possibility of mode...

I have my passive crossovers arrived. They are built by hornFabrik. Everything is up to the spec I asked for and I really like their build quality. As of yesterday, I have now a more promising sound towards what I have aimed for. They are first order...

Dear Romy, regarding your efforts to solve variations in mains power supply, there has been an interesting thread on RAT related to the use of toroids as power transformers that morphed into a discussion about the level of DC offset in mains power su...
|
Ok, I do not know what it was: was it DHT, was it 300B, was it some other specifics of this given amp or whatever… but those two aspects that I named: intentional density of colors and randomness of pace are something that I would like to exercise in...
Well, I have to admit that I did not listen the whole sound of AC vs. DC filaments yet. I will bring home today my DC lab supply that I use for my electromagnet coil and will give the try. I still at this point am not...
In the 6 Channel Version of Super Melquiades
thread at post #89 you mention trouble you
were having with some NC relays that you were using to disconnect some power
supply bleeder resistors when the amp was turned on. When t...

Similar to the famous sexist tail that women can be only ether pretty or smart the midbass horns unfortunately behave in the very same way: they can be only nicely placed in a room or they can sound good. You want the horn to place in a specific ...

Because I feel that with your help, sooner or later I will solve this problem. So far I have been feeling very frustrated for days, so I decided to post this on the forum as a last resort. I do not know any people who know electronics constructi...
On the matter of the DHT having a plate resistance of 500-700... you do realise that running the 6E5p with an unbypassed cathode resistor is giving you an effective Rp of about 12k, right? The formula is, IIRC, Rp + (mu+1)Rk.[/qu...
Resonant frequency :
I did not try to measure it. Can anyone confirm the following : I assume this parameter is most easily determined by playing a series of tones at constant signal strength (volume setting) whi...

Yes, it is imposable to have + 0.4V on the grid, 0.0V at input, with R5 resistor in place and the gas tubes outputting +150V and -150V. My apologies, I meant to say I have minus 4.4v on the grid with the inputs shorted. Then I unshort the ...
|
Why do we use DHT tubes? it is not because of their technical specifications. They have low transconductance, a problematic direct filament, and they cost a lot.Obviously, it is because of their sound. Some people like it and some people don't.The DH...

Thanks, KM
It makes sense but I do not like to burn those tubes at max plate dissipation. How about if I put one more RC chains in PS and drop anode voltages from 400V to 350V? Then if burn let say 60V in cathode then I arrive to a comfortable...

Romy,I have rebuilt my phonostage (the pictures after update are added to Picasa):1. Fixed filament. Now a ripple about 1mV (unmeasured by my Fluke). The filter is: C-L-C-L-C
30000uf-3mH-30000uf-3mH-30000uf. I put two 3mH chokes & Nichico...

Chris, I'm not Romy but I've listened to some of their products -- about which I'll talk later. First:
Hi Roman, FM Acoustics amplifiers from Switserland have been regarded by many audiophiles (mostly the ones with lots of money)...
Sure, there is nothing wrong with a transformer-attenuator if it has a pure restive load but as we know it is never the case. If we need a drop voltage elsewhere then we use resistors, right? We do not we use transformer-at...

As to the best transformers souding more transparent than the best resistors, I'll believe it when I (don't?) hear it. You claim to have heard this but I most certainly haven't. Based on theoretical arguments the noninductive metal film r...

Romy,Hi, new here. Great and very interesting website. I think a lot of people have misread you, they don't expend the time to actually think about some of the things you have said. Anyhow, looking at the above schematic (is this sa...

Ok, so you do not like 'soul' that you as the 'creator' have put into an object, that you happen to make what it is. - I guess that's not quite so fine by me, kind of stone-cold :-(Why would I CARE for a bunch of wires and a lump of metal, ...
